On June 19, 2020, Takataka Plastics was featured on DW's Eco Africa, a TV program showcasing innovative environmental projects across Africa and Europe. This episode showcases our work in transforming plastic waste into reusable face shields for medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A group of young innovators in Gulu City are transforming medical plastic waste, such as drip bottles, into face shields. They intend to donate the items to front-line medical and health workers across the country. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the group commonly known as Takataka has donated 1,205 face shields to eight districts in northern Uganda.

Uganda generates 600 tonnes of plastic waste every day. However, less than 6% is recycled. In Gulu, the social enterprise Takataka Plastics has been engaging a number of street connected youth in recycling plastic waste into a wide range of products.
